The £2 surcharge will be introduced early in 2018 and comes in addition to the existing diesel surcharge for resident parking permits, which has existed since 2015. As an inner-city borough containing several major transport routes, Islington suffers from some of the highest pollution levels in London. Currently organisations can run vans up to 3.5 tonnes GVW without needing an O-licence. More than 90% of respondents, including the BVRLA, backed the change to 4.25 tonnes GVW, and the Government last week (14 December) announced this exemption will become law. Renault says the new engine offers a significant improvement in driving pleasure, with increased torque at low revs and greater and constant availability at high revs, while reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
